COW THE UNIVERSAL BENEFACTOR

Mother Cow, in India, is the symbol of cultural nationalism.  It has all along had a very special place in its culture.  The modern day living, the advent of science and technology, the cultural evolution and invasion has not been able to take the cow out of the heart and mind of Indians.  The Economic, Scientific and Jeev Bodh are at the core of this reverence for the cow.

The Indian belief that it is the cow which helps us to cross the Vaitarni after death is to be understood in the right perspective.  In fact, Vaitarni is the journey of life which starts with one’s birth and continues through different life cycles.  To make this journey joyful, is the essence of spiritualism and cow, being the living manifestation of the God Himself, is the  fountain head of spiritual energy.  Firstly, the cow as the Mother, sustains life by providing  sustainable Health & Nutrition, sustainable Agriculture and protects Environment by maintaining the biodiversity of the planet Earth through its integrated cycle.  This is why the cow is also called the Global Mother of biodiversity.  Secondly, Cow as the Sacred helps in stabilizing ;your Jeeva or Jeevansh by Jeev Bodh through the natural process of normalization.  For this, one has to revere the cow and do gauseva.

The importance of gauseva could be understood well if we look back to Indian scriptures and philosophy.  Lord Krishna as the young child tells her mother Yashoda that he could not do gauseva in his previous births and missed this wonderful experience. That his present birth is to do gauseva with his own hands and he becomes Gopal.  The king Dalip offers himself to the lion in a forest to save his cow and Chayvan Rishi proclaims that the whole kingdom is not worth his value except the cow.  To appreciate this source of spiritual energy, one has to experience it himself through gauseva and it is one thing which can not be taught by others but only experienced.

The modern day life is full of conflicts.  Neither the body nor the mind are at peace.  The conflicts have wide ramifications through environment, emotions, health, finances and so on.  This breeds envied competition and ultimately leads to frustration and stress.  A number of solutions and techniques are being marketed to come over the conflicts and reduce stress.  The large gatherings and conglomerations   are indicative of the societal health.  But all these products give only momentary or at best temporary relief.  This is because these products are based on comparative or relative theories and perceptions.  These are unnatural processes against the totality of environment in which one lives.  Therefore, back home, these do not work.  At times, these become another indulgence and retreat is hampered.  As against this, the mere thought of gauseva brings the individual in direct    touch with his Jeeva.  More you indulge in good and pious thoughts of gauseva, serving the mother cow in any way, the natural process of identifying the turbulence begins and slowly slowly it  starts settling down.  When one actually performs gauseva, the stabilization begins to unfold, the spirit is unbound and activated releasing tremendous spiritual energy.  This then engulf the universe in its vision and one can see and experience the relationship of own Jeevansh with that of Param Brahm.  The conflicts are sublimated and the Jeeva floats in the Atma like lotus in the water.

One has to also understand and relate with clarity the Prana, the Manah, the Atma and the Jeeva.  If we deeply analyse any living body’s action, we will notice that all body functions are only trying to sustain Jeeva.  The functions at macro level will explain that the bony framework supports vital organs, the vital organs convert food into blood.  The blood circulates Prana (the oxygen)  through the whole body and maintains it.  It is purified and re-circulates the  Prana.  Thus Pranayam becomes the breathing exercise.  At the micro level, the Manah keeps oscillating with Prana.  The Manah acts as vibrating medium or carrier for the Atma which keeps on changing its forms depending upon the Sthiti of Manah.  The Jeeva is the sub-micro system central to Atma  which gets destabilized between the actions and reactions of the Manah and the Atma.  The Jeeva is very very sukshma and a minuscule of Brahm also called Brahmansh.  This Brahmansh in human body is the spirit of life and emanates  energy depending on the stages of Prana, the Manah and the Atma.  The energy released sinks in the oscillating Manah and drowns in the turbulence.  Its radiating light is not experienced by the soul.  Thus spiritualism hinges on ones capacity and ability to stabilize the micro system and allow the sub-micro system to operate.  For this one needs naturalization of self and not on the basis of relativity of the environment that surrounds the human body and mind.

The sacred cow as the universal benefactor is the only manifestation so close to the heart and mind of Indian philosophy and its people that provides solace and salvage out of conflicts irrespective of one’s creed, caste or faith.  It is, therefore, said that Cow is the Mother of the Universe.
