The situation has been further aggravated by the cross bred programme leading to the deterioration of the indigenous breed. Fortunately, the sliver lining has not been lost and already there is a realization to bring back the cow for sustainable agriculture and house hold support for the health and nutrition of the nucleus family. The Trust had started a programme of improving the milching capacity and quality of the indigenous breed. The programme was launched in August,2004. Pavitra:The cow urine is a disinfectant and a natural mosquito/insects repellant. Because of the presence of urea, it also helps in cleaning the floors. The Indian society also treats the cow urine as a sacred purifier. The Trust is therefore contemplating to market cow urine under the brand name "Pavitra" as a replacement of phenyl which is very harmful. The activity will provide direct support to Gaushalas and will help maintain serenity at home. The project undertaken by the Trust is progressing well and in the first phase, cow urine has been successfully de-coloured and made odourless through the physical process. The chemical tests on the product are being carried out and the machine for commercial production on pilot basis may be ready soon. The launch is expected by early 2007.
