 The Purpose

To re-activate the Integrated Cycle of cow for sustainable Agriculture, Health & Nutrition and Rural Development

Activities 2003-2004

The Trust, in the past three years, has carved out a special place for itself in Gosewa. The people are no more indifferent to the cause of cows and are willing to provide the necessary support. The media is also very responsive and there is positive coverage of cow related issues. The Central and State Governments are also focusing on rural economic development centered around cow. Love4Cow Trust has also presented an economic model for the rural poor. The Trust hopes that in the times to come the integrated cycle of the cow will be reactivated and will become the theme for the economic and food security of the rural poor.

Free Veterinary Care

The Trust is providing free veterinary care to the sick and stray cows (Govansh) in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon. The service is managed through the Helpline Mobile No.9819434399. The Trust has also been given an ambulance fitted with hydraulic system for carrying sick and stray cows by the Jai Prakash Group of Industries. This is the first of its kind ambulance in Delhi. The Helpline has been well received in public and the Trust is getting full public support and cooperation. The Animal Welfare Board of India also provided initial grant of Rupees Ten Thousand only for the year 2003-04.

Pahli Roti Gau Ki

The cow is the true symbol of cultural nationalism. It is revered in each house. There has been a practice of cooking first roti for the cow and the last for the dog. The Trust launched the scheme in July 2003 wherein buckets were kept in the temples in Delhi and the rotis were then collected by the Trust and given to the Goshalas. The idea behind this activity was to revive the old culture and generate love and care for the cow as a part of our tradition.

Prakriti 2003

The Vishwa Ayurved Parishad this year also organized in October, 2003 a national conference in association with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on the indigenous agriculture centered around the cow. The Trust also participated in the conference and gave its valuable suggestions including setting up of a separate Ministry/Department for Godhan Vikas. The Trust also brought out a folder titled "Godhan Se Akshay Vikas - an economic model for rural development. It highlighted how the Godhan was necessary for sustainable agriculture, energy, health & nutrition and poverty alleviation.

Ek Shyam Gau Mata Ke Nam

As a part of its public awareness programme, the Trust organized an evening titled "Ek Sham Gaun Mata Ke Nam" on 10th December, 2003 in Siri Fort Auditorium. Anuradha Podwal, the famous devotional singer, kindly accepted our request and recited bhajans asking the audience to express love and care for the mother cow. The occasion was also graced by the benign presence of Devraha Baba Chhote Maharaj who in his discourse emphasized virtues of the cow and duty of every devout Indian to respect the tradition. The programme was well received by the audience and got good publicity. The Trust is grateful to Shri Naresh Juneja, President of the Kahror Pakka Mahasabha who were our associates for the programme. Sadhna TV Channel arranged live telecast for its viewers The Trust also expresses its gratitude and appreciation for the support provided by the Sadhna TV Channel. Rajesh Khanna, ex-MP and the superstar of the yesteryears was also kind enough to grace the occasion and exhorted the people to accept the cow in the true Indian tradition.

The Cow Journal

At present, there is no journal dedicating itself to the economic and scientific virtues of cow. The Trust has registered the quarterly economic and scientific journal titled "The Indian Cow" with National Institute of Science, Communication and Information Resources (NISCARE). The journal will provide a platform to the Panch Gavya professionals, scientists and researchers to bring out research activities at one place. This will provide documentation to the research and development in the field at one place. The journal is formally to be launched from the second quarter of the year 2004.

Panch Gavya Professionals Club

The Trust has also formed an informal body of Panch Gavya Professionals with the objective to document the scientific and traditional knowledge and encourage research and development in the area. The Panch Gavya Professionals Club is also receiving good response. Dr. R.S. Chauhan, renowned scientist in the field has agreed to be the convener of the club.

Indigenous Breed Improvement

The cow has been virtually out of economy for quite some time. The modern day dairy concept has put the cow out of place. Similarly, the modern day farming based on machinery and chemical fertilizers/pesticides has threatened the utility of cow in the agriculture. The situation has been further aggravated by the cross bred programme leading to the deterioration of the indigenous breed. Fortunately, the sliver lining has not been lost and already there is a realization to bring back the cow for sustainable agriculture and house hold support for the health and nutrition of the nucleus family. The Trust has, therefore, taken upon itself a very ambitious programme of improving the milching capacity of the indigenous breed. The programme will be formally launched in the second quarter of the year 2004 and all preparations in this regard have been made.
