ANNUAL REPORT 2002-2003


Love 4 Cow Trust is a registered public charitable trust incorporated on 14th  August, 2001 at New Delhi vide Registration No. 3895 in additional Book No. IV Volume No. 650 on pages 100 to 107 at Sub Registrar VII New Delhi. 

Love 4 Cow Trust is registered with the Department of Income Tax- New Delhi U/S 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961 Vide No. DIT (E)/ 2001-02/L-419/2001/445 Dated 3/10/2001 and exempted under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 Vide No. DIT (E)/ 2001-02/L-419/2001/1248  dated 3/10/2001Valid up to 31st  March, 2003. The exemption U/S 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 has been extended up to 31st  March, 2006 Vide No. DIT (E)/ 2002-03/L-419/2001/55  dated 24/04/03 

Love 4 Cow Trust is also registered with the Animal Welfare Board of India Vide Recognition Code  No. ND032/2002 dated 6/3/02

Activities 2001-2002 

Love 4 Cow Trust in the short period since its inception has been able to establish its identity as an organization dedicated to the cause of cow and its progeny. The issue of cow has been flagged and more and more people are showing interest to know more about cow. The media has been very helpful and the cow is in the news. The  activities undertaken by the Trust are mentioned in brief in the succeeding paragraphs. 

National Workshop on “ Cow Milk is Amrit”           

The Trust organized a one-day National Workshop on the theme of  “Cow Milk is Amrit” on 7th July, 2002 (Sunday) at India International Centre (IIC), Lodi Estate, New Delhi-110003.  This was to bring out the virtues of cow milk with focus on health and nutritional aspects.    

The Workshop was inaugurated by Shri Om Prakash Chautala, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana and was presided by Justice Guman Mal Lodha, Chairman, Animal Welfare Board of India and acting Chairman of National Commission on Cattle.  Shri Som Pal, Member, Planning Commission, Justice J. Ishwari Prasad, Shri H.S. Hans Pal presently President, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and representative of Namdhari Sikhs were the special guests.  Mrs. Binoo Sen, presently Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Department, Dr. S.C.L. Gupta, President, Delhi Medical Association, and Shri Kamlesh Dixit, Director Times of India Group were the guests of honour. 

Mrs. Asha Swami, President, Love4Cow Trust read the welcome address.  The velidictary session was chaired by Shri Sunil Mansinghka, Go Vigyan Anusandhan  Kendra, Nagpur.  The speakers who delivered their talks were: 

Bio-Protective role of Cow milk in Human health -Dr V K Kansal, Principal Scientist,National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Medicinal use of cow milk in Ayurveda- Vaidya Shri Vivekanand Pandey, National Consultant, Reproductive Child Health Care; Cow’s milk in infant feeding- Dr Ashok Dutta, Director & Professor and HOD Pediatrics, Kalawati  Saran Children Hospital, Lady Harding  Medical College, New Delhi; Cow's milk a novel source of microbial wealth- Dr C S Nautiyal, Head Micro-Biology Division,National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow; Our Scriptures on cow milk- Shri I.K.Narang, Deptt. of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India; Cow milk is a part of balanced diet- Ms Kiranjeet Kaur, Dietician, Guru Nanak Eye Care Centre, New Delhi; Fodder and Feed- Shri Ramesh Rawal, Sr. Vice President,BAIF Development Research Foundation; Specialty of Indian breeds of cows-A perspective- Dr. Bhushan Tyagi, Assistant Livestock Officer, Deptt. of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India 

The Workshop was attended by the officers of the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Non-Conventional Energy, Doctors, Medical Practitioners of Indian System of Medicines, Members/Representatives of the National Commission on Cattle, Animal Welfare Board of India, Gaushalas and the cow lovers. 

All the speakers including guest speakers underlined the importance of cow and cow milk in our day to-day life.  It was highlighted that the cow milk was a complete healthy food fit for people of all age groups.  Cow milk was sustainable healthy food which could be consumed and easily digested from infants to old age people.  The cow milk is a low fat, low calorie,  high vitamin and high immunity food.   It provided all necessary ingredients  which were needed by human body (except iron) for a healthy and energetic life.  The Workshop expressed concern that availability of cow milk from a reliable and dependable source was a big constraint.  Therefore, effort should be made not only to propagate the essentiality of cow milk as a part of regular diet but also its availability.  It was also highlighted that cow milk of indigenous breed was far superior in its content and quality.  The Workshop also focused on the availability of quality fodder for cows not only to improve the lactation but also the quality of the milk. 

Akhil Bhartiya Sammelan on Panchgavya avam Govansh adharit Arthvyavastha 

The Trust participated in the Akhil Bhartiya Sammelan on Panchgavya avam Govansh adharit Arthvyavastha held from 6th to 8th September, 2002 at IIT Campus, New Delhi.  Sammelan was organized by Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad in collaboration with IIT, Delhi and IIT, Kanpur.  The Trust participated in the Sammelan and made valuable suggestions for the cause of cow.  The suggestions were also included in the recommendations of the Sammelan.  The Trust had also put up a stall in the exhibition which was visited by a number of dignitaries – Shri L.K. Advani, Deputy Prime Minsiter of India, Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi, Hon’ble Minister for HRD and Science & Technology, Shri K. Sudarshan, Chief, Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh, the representatiaves of Gaushalas, cow lovers and IIT students. 

International Seminar on “Cow and Bio-diversity”  

The Trust organized a two-day International Seminar on Cow and Bio-diversity  at RCVP Naronha Administration Academy, Arera Colony, Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) on 21st and 22nd January, 2003 with focus on Sustainable Nutrition and Rural Development.  The objective was to reactivate the integrated cycle of cow for sustainable nutrition, sustainable agriculture and rural development.  The theme was that development of cattle wealth was an essential component for overall rural development. 

Shri Digvijay Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh was the Chief Guest. Shri Som Pal, Hon’ble Member, Planning Commission and Member, XII Finance Commission delivered the key note address.  The Seminar was presided by Shri Shiv Narayan Meena, Minister of State (independent Charge) for Animal Husbandry, Madhya Praesh.  Shri Mahendra Bam, Chairman, Gosewa Ayog, Madhya Pradesh, Shri K.S. Sharma, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Commission and Smt. Kiran Vijay Singh, Director Genral, Administration Academy, Bhopal were Guests of Honour.

Tripathi, IPS (Retd) Patron for Love4Cow Trust, Madhya Pradaesh presented the vote of thanks.  The valedictory session was addressed by Shri D.R. Bhagat, Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Government of Madhya Pradesh.  The Speakers who presented their papers in the Seminar were:

Menon, expert on Bio-dynamics, Indore; Agnihotra for sustainable agriculture – Ms Karina Heschl, Austria; Homa Therapy based on heeling fires of Ayurveda for - Mr Bruce Johnson, an expert on environment protection from Australia; Cow for marginal farmers – Dr. Chandra Shekhar Nautiyal, Head, Micro-Biology Division, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, GOI; Bio-Energy for Rural Development – Shri Padam Singh, Regional Administrator, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy, GOI; Gopalan for livelihood – Shri Mukesh Gupta, MR Morarka-GDC, Rural Research Foundation, Jaipur; Bioactivities of Cow Urine – Shri Sunil Mansinghka, Go-vigyan Anusandhan Kendra, Nagpur; Power generation from cow dung – Shri V.P. Gupta, Director, Department of Energy, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Cow milk protection and availability – Shri R.R. Singh, General Manager, Madhya Pradesh Milk Federation; Breeds and medical care of cows – Dr. Khan, Government of Madhya Pradesh; and Cow – A symbol of cultural nationalism – Shri Hukam Chand Sawla, Mahamantri, All India Goraksha Smiti. 

Shri Vinod Semwal, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Shri S.C. Prajapati, Secretary, Goseva, Madhya Pradesh and other officers from different departments of the Government of Madhya Pradesh were present. The Seminar was also attended by the Members/Representatives of the National Commission on Cattle, Animal Welfare Board of India, Vetenarians,  Goshalas, Gayatri Parivar, local NGOs and the cow lovers.   

Mrs. Asha Swami, President, Love4Cow Trust in her welcome address, made the following request:- i) a separate Ministry for Godhan Vikas may be formed to reactivate the integrated cycle of cow for rural development; ii) Gosewa Ayog, Madhya Pradesh be strengthened by providing them funds to the tune of Rs.5 crore; iii) Cow milk be made available by the Milk Federation of the Government. 

Hon’ble Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh in his inaugural address said that – i) The concept of Dry Dairy be enlarged to make non-milching govansh economically viable; ii) If the Central Government supports partly, the State Government will procure and keep all stray cattle in goshalas/gosadans; iii) The State Government favours total ban on cow slaughter; iv) As govansh is now economically viable even if not giving milk, there was need for review of the earlier Supreme Court decision allowing govansh slaughter beyond the specified age; v) The budgetary allocation of Goseva Ayog,Madhya Pradesh was increased from an amount of Rs. 70 lakhs to Rs. 5 crore.
